Max has directed 14 stylistically distinctive shorts. He found a home in horror and a love of nasty endings.

Horror-comedy short RHYME OR DIE has over 1.3 million views on Alter’s YouTube channel, with a reaction video of the short passing 1.1 million views. The short won BEST SCREENPLAY SHORT at the BAFTA-qualifying Manchester Film Festival and BEST HORROR SHORT at the Atlanta Underground Film Festival. It premiered online on SHORT OF THE WEEK and DIRECTORS NOTES.

Latest short INEBRIATED had its world premiere at Frightfest in summer ‘25. It was part-funded by The Bournemouth Film School’s alumni fund, Funding Futures. It has also screened at Abertoir Horror Festival, Nevermore Film Festival and Panic Fest.

BRAIN DRAIN, a horror-comedy feature written by Max, was selected for the ‘26 European Genre Forum. It was also given a Travel Grant by the British Council and BFI Network to attend the festival.

Through the Straight 8 competition (editing in-camera using Super 8), Max created three unique shorts from different sub-genres. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE opened at the Straight 8 London Premiere screening before releasing on Alter’s YouTube channel. The latest, BAG FOR LIFE, premiered at Film Quest before screening at the BAFTA Qualifying London Short Film Festival. The trilogy was edited into an anthology and released on Alter as TWISTED TALES: A SUPER 8 ANTHOLOGY.

Directors UK selected Max for their INSPIRE scheme (2023), which will provide yearlong mentoring by director Lee Haven Jones. Max shadowed Lee on two ITV dramas. He is a BAFTA member through their 2023 Connect scheme. Max also shadowed director Nick Rowland on Season 2 Episode 7 of THE GENTLEMEN. 

Max has supported his directing through 13 years of working within the art department. Primarily designing commercials for clients including SKY, NETFLIX and SAMSUNG.
